"I read the Stark Employee Contract," she was definitely blushing, and fiercely, but she met his gaze with determination. "You can't fire me without reasonable cause, and if I debate it, the Board of Directors has to vote on it."
"You peppersprayed my bodyguard!" Tony protested, but he was grinning.
"And saved your company 1.92 million dollars," she didn't have to look at the sheet to recite the number. "Something I'm sure the Board won't overlook."
"Who made that rule, anyway?" Tony grumbled. "Stupid."
"You did."
"Probably drunk," Tony groaned.
"Unfortunately, it's still in action while you're sober," she countered, and he opened his mouth in mock-amazement.
"Why, Pepper, was that a joke?"
"I'm very funny," she was grinning, too, now. "And it's Virginia, by the way. Virginia Potts."
"Pepper fits you better," Tony tapped the desk impatiently. "Fine, then. If I can't fire you, how about a promotion?"
