Marlen always wondered about her father.
When you’re the 16-year-old daughter of a 32-year-old mother – and when she refers to the man who raised you as Uncle Mike – it’s hard not to. Then a chain of events leads to a horrifying possibility.
She turns to the internet and library for answers – and to the assistance of her friend Karen, the Snowden-esque hacker and resident genius of her private school. And she distracts herself with the witty banter of her other friend Ophelia, a Washington, DC transplant whose appreciation for New Mexico’s beauty extends solely to the scantily clad boys at the pool.
As the summer progresses, and the setting changes from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, Marlen finds herself holding a secret of her own – and begins to realize the responsibility this entails.
