What would you do to survive in a world where the hungry dead walked?

This is a question I have asked myself since the early 2000's. It all started when I came across J.L. Bourne's book Day By Day Armageddon. He had posted it online. His story of one man surviving a world of zombies in San Antonio rapidly developed a following and went to print.

I credit it with kicking off my interest in the reinvigorated genre. Since then such works have been a consistent guilty pleasure. I read Bourne's sequels, devoured the writing of Z.A. Recht, David Wellington, Max Brooks and then chewed heartily through the pages inked by Shawn Cheeser, Craig DiLouie and many others. They all entertained and they inspired me to give it a try. Here are five stories that I have been imagining for some time.

"Escape" charts the fall of New York City through the eyes of a handful of characters.

"Gender" takes us to a secret underground bunker where the future of humankind watches and waits.

"Murder" cracks a murder case in the much smaller post-apocalyptic community of Manhattan.

"Herd" documents changes in the natural order that literally threatens to wipe away survivors.

"Plan" documents one man's strategy for avoiding both zombies and people.

I truly hope you enjoy these outings. Let me know one way or another.

When you are infected with the virus, there are four stages. 1) Your fever will shoot up and everything will become intensified on a maximum level. You'll lose grip on what's reality and what's illusion. 2) You'll start to slowly fall down the rabbit hole, forgetting the past and everything and everyone that you knew. 3) You face your imminent death. 4) You wake up with a pressing hunger for the living. It's been seven months since the pandemic hit with this virus and the world has been ravaged and left to ruins. Society has crumbled to nothing and more than three fourths of the population have been infected with the mysterious virus that took the world by storm. The virus has turned anyone infected into crazed flesh-eating freaks, with decrepit skin and red puffy eyes. The only way to kill them is by obliterating the brain. Elise Alice Gordon, Lease for short, led a simple life until the virus hit. Seven months later she is just barely scraping by. She's done what she's had to do to survive, and in that process she has created demons that haunt her every time she closes her eyes. See, it hasn't been easy trying to live in a dead world. She's lost friends, family, and everything she's ever known. The only thing she hasn't lost is her humanity and her hope. But she's afraid she's starting to. Because in this new world, there's only her, the dead, and the restless. © 2012 by Ashtyn Mane. All rights reserved.
To Be A Hero by GravityWillFall01

Book 4 in the To Be A Runner series. If you have not read books 1, 2 or 3, I seriously suggest you do before continuing in order to avoid confusion. An expectant mother, a shady government worker, an unexpected visitor, and the search for a cure. Yep, that sounds about right. It's been almost nine months since the world was saved from eternal happiness, but the world is still in danger. The dead still walk and we are still far from finding a cure. But we are still discovering new things. Veronica's hard at work, and with Abel teaming up with the Ministry nothing should be able to stop us. At least, that's what I thought. But there are things we still don't understand, things I'm not sure I want to understand, like the voices in my head, like the zombies that can almost talk and are what Veronica likes to call 'Sentient Type Zombies'. There are things that I'm facing that I'd rather just forget-things I'd rather not know about... But I can't be that way. I can't back down-not from the A.M.T.B., not from the voices in my head, and not from the overwhelming feelings that clog my throat and make it almost impossible to breathe whenever I see- No, feelings are not important now, not when a cure is available, not when he's busy worrying about his baby that's due to arrive and the fact that Paula's getting sicker and... I'm getting off topic. It's time for me to step up once again. My job as a runner is never done. Now it's time for me to step up and be a hero. Disclaimer-I do not own Zombies, Run! Or its characters. I only own the ones I created. This is my Runner Five's version of season four and what I think happened in between missions.
A Different Virus - Laura's Story by CrystalScherer

This is a second view point from my original story - A Different Virus - Heartfire. I highly advise reading the original book first. Intro: Laura was a happy child without a care in the world. She loved her parents and life was perfect. Nothing seemed like it could go wrong. People started talking about a bad flu that was spreading and sending some into a coma. Her parents grew worried and stocked the house in case of a pandemic. Months later another virus appeared. Her family was shocked when the news people started reporting that zombies were actually real and not just part of a horror movie. They were appearing in every country. Her parents reassured her that none of the zombie sightings had been anywhere close to them. Her life is turned upside down when her father ends up in hospital with the bad flu and mother exiles her upstairs for her safety. She was never allowed downstairs again. Weeks pass and the streets become deserted with the exception of the red eyed zombies that wandered around. One night she notices a swiftly moving figure with glowing blue eyes in the street below. Should she call out or remain silent? Is this fleeting shadow something that can help her or could this mysterious figure be even more dangerous than the zombies themselves? ---------------------- Ranked #1 Apr 10, 2018 (A huge thank you to all who read and voted!) This story is copyright and built from my own imagination. This book was a special request from someone who helped me a lot. This viewpoint has less action than the original. The cover was made by @All_AboutAssymetry. A huge thanks to her! Copyright September 2016. All Rights Reserved. Readers may not copy, alter, or steal this story. + Co-written with Meteoritezr, SLOW UPDATES + First rule of living with the Flock? No names. Nothing real anyway. You don't survive with your humanity, you shed it, or it sheds you. Zombies were said to be impossible, that they'd never happen, well obviously whoever said that had underestimated human curiosity. It started with the melting of the Poles, which uncovered diseases that hadn't been seen in millennia, obviously when a flesh-eating parasitical virus was found, scientists in all their glory decided to study it, which led to the greatest calamity in human history. - TW: Gore, Cursing, Death, ect. Not recommended for anyone who can't stomach gore or other zombie stuff, and LGBTQ+. Homophobia will not be tolerated in anyway, shape or form -
