Kay Morgan is just your typical 16-year-old girl. She loves her boy bands, is a dedicated contemporary dancer, and has a crazy obsession with reading. Reading is her way to escape from the real world. The only abnormal thing about Kay is that she was born in Sri Lanka and comes from a Tamil background, and at 1 year old, was adopted into a European family that lives in Canada. This family consists of a mother that works as a real estate, a father that is an engineer, and her older brother Brandon, who is trying to get into college through a basketball scholarship. Despite her different skin colour, Kay always considered herself to be European, just like her family. Sometimes people stare when they go out together, but it never bothers her. Being a sophmore in high school, Kay is pretty neutral with all of her peers, but mostly just focuses on herself and her dreams of getting into a good college and becoming an author. Life is too short to worry about drama, after all. However, she still has to deal with Daniel Wood, star of the junior basketball team, and the boy that all the girls drool over. Daniel drives Kay crazy, he can't go two seconds without getting on her nerves. But, other than that, life is great. Until, Kay gets assigned to be Aneka Rathakrishnan's tour guide. Aneka comes from a Tamil family that just moved to Canada from Sri Lanka, right across the street from Kay's home. As Kay starts to get close to Aneka and her family, she also begins to learn more about her past, and the TRUTH about her birth family.
