Little Mareep lost her mother in a fire when she was very young. Her father abandonded her and her mother as soon as she was born.
Mareep wasn't just sad that she didn't have parents anymore, but she was extremely hurt when she realized all that happened, was Lugia's and Ho-oh's fault. They saved three others, but not Mareep's mother. Mareep was convinced that Lugia and Ho-oh turned against her.
She wanted to find a new region, where the guardian's were appreciative, nice, and caring.

And that's how Mareep's journey started.
