A short story set in the port city of Thalanor. Baldor, a wealthy baker, envies the towns greatest warrior Magnus. Desperate to garner the same attention and respect he does, Baldor seeks out old and dark magic. Finally having his wish granted, he begins to realize he may have gotten more then he bargained for.

10 years ago my mother disappeared. That night is tainted with rumor, no one knowing the true story. They say she left, but I know something much darker had to have dragged her away. My desire to discover the truth is thwarted when the insufferable Lord Nicandros appears in our village, reminding me of every one of my shortcomings.
