16-year-old Cookie Cane has been tested by life so much, she feels like she can't take any more of it. Ever since her mother died in a car crash last year, Cookie's father won't leave his room, her older brother has stopped speaking to her, and the only person who can even remotely cares is her best friend Aubrieta. But Cookie's life takes a turn for the better when she signs up for guitar and songwriting lessons. She's liked singing; her mother had a dream to sing professionally when she was about Cookie's age.
