There is something that humans don't understand and have been wondering about for thousands of years, asking questions that go unanswered.
What is it? It's birthmarks. Everyone has a birthmark.
They are not your average birthmark. They always start out black but change into these beautiful, multicolored shapes on our skin. They are handprints, fingerprints, odd-looking shapes, impressions of lips, almost like lipstick marks.
Some unfortunate soul has a black hand-print on their cheek. They are black spots on your knuckles as if you've punched someone who wore black ink on their face and now you can't get it off of you.
But they've been there since birth. We still don't understand the hows of it, or really the exact why of it. They change color when you touch someone, or when someone touches you in the same exact way that the mark appears, swiftly fading from black to a multitude of colors, like a rainbow with every gradient of every beautiful color. But it's not just any person that changes your mark to that beautiful bright mark.
It's your soulmate, your Significant Other. Everyone has a mark.

Gifts and soulmates were common currency in Donumdell. From a very young age, that was all its citizens were instilled with. And each and every one of them knew that at some point in their lives, especially between the ages of twelve and twenty-five, they were bound to receive both marks on their wrist. One, in a black tone, denoted the type of gift they had been given at birth. And the second one, in a white tone, dictated that whoever shared that same mark was bound to be their soulmate and with whom they would spend the rest of their lives. But what happens when someone does not receive any kind of mark? How does a society ruled and ranked by those marks react when faced with the presence of someone like that? My Soulmate (HoO/PJO AU)
When you turn 14, you get a tattoo that describes your soulmate. As you spend more time with them, it gets more detailed. But when you kiss your soulmate for the first time, you tattoo glows and shows their name. But this only happens when it is love and love only. (So if you just kiss someone to kiss them then your tattoo won't glow) As for your soulmate dying, your tattoo turns black and shows a small picture of them with their name under. After three days it goes away and you never get another tattoo. Disclaimer: I do not own the PJO or HoO characters. I wish I did though, but sadly that title belongs to Uncle Rick. I also do not own any songs, bands, brands, etc. Also I suck at descriptions. And my writing starts off kinda bad and super short but trust me, it gets better, so yeah. It's known that when you turn 16 you get a black mark on your body where your soulmate first touches you but this is only visible to you and your soulmate and only when you two discover your true feelings only then will it appear to your soulmate.
