All burnt. All gone. The monsters we feared and their masters on top swirled in the air. I could hear them laugh they the burned house after house. My home, my family all gone. All charred and black. I fell on my knees seeing everything I loved burned.

That when one of them came down. He landed making the wind gush. His majestic wings flapped in the air.

"Get up!" it said to me.

I was still in daze I thought I was delusional with all the disaster and I was hallucinating that this mute creature was talking to me.

"Get up!" I heard him roar and hiss. And then I did. I obeyed to a dragon who burned down my village.

My golden dragon was ready to fly me. You cannot imagine my excitement for the opportunity. Ailleacht (my dragon) has devised a cunning harness for me to buckle onto as she plans to push the limits of maned or should I say womaned flight. I climbed onto my dragon's back and buckled my ankles and knees down and adjusted the flight straps then immediately after signaling my dragon we were airborne. Our little island home appeared to fall way from me as we soared higher. It became a landscape in miniature. A mixed flock of puffins, guillemots and gulls joined us but were soon left in our wake as we soared higher and higher. The sea from this height appears calm and the sky clear and sun bright in a cloudless sky. Ailleacht then rolled and I was upside down as we fell like a cannon ball from the sky. I held up my hands and screamed for the joy of it and I admit to the terror. I screamed and screamed until I lost my voice and I gasped for breath. Then mere inches above the calm waters of the loch my dragon rolled me upright as we skimmed the surface. My belly felt like I was floating and weightless and I felt the spray on my face from the disrupted water surface as the powerful wings of my golden companion drove us along. We climbed again and I could see spread out before me my home and all of the Hebrides. In the distance out to sea we rapidly approached a thick band of snow white clouds and drove through them again and again rising higher. Then once again we climbed to enormous height and could find no air to breathe. We stalled in the silence of dead air and fell back to earth in a flat spin. I must fly again Aurelija, Dragon Rider

"Long ago, when the world believed dragons were only myth. The world was ruled by humans, in that world it was human kill everything. All that changed when the sky opened and out came creatures that would burn the world to ash. Millions of lives lost in a matter of one year, the human army tried to kill them but no missile could breach the armored skin on the dragons body. Soon the whole human race would be gone, but that didn't happen. Everything changed when a man appeared. He was just a man they all thought until they witnessed him controlling and even riding a dragon with scales as black as the night sky. Once he came, the killings and number of wild dragons dropped, he had tamed them all. He came to be called Kahlo in our language or to the humans, he was the Dragon King. With Kahlo riding a dragon, he showed only the loyal ones how to do the same. That is how the Riders were born." The man stopped talking as he looked at the two faces of his children. "I think it be for bed soon my children." "Oh come now father, please finish the story," a little boy with white hair begged. "Yes father please," a young girl with black hair begged as well. "Alright, but it be bed right after or your mother would have my head." They both giggled and waited for their father to continue the story. "Peace flowed over the world, he put in place, his own form of rule. Each country would be ruled by a single Rider and their clans. Each of the world had dragons and their riders ruling the country. That is how peace remained in this world but something came to destroy our peace." The children gasped making the father smile. "Now to bed you two go." "Ah but father." They both whined but he covered them with the blanket. "No buts, to bed. I'll see you both in the morning." He kissed their heads making them smile. "Goodnight father." They both said as he closed the door.

"What the hell?" I took a step closer to the mirror, staring at my reflection in disbelief. The person looking back was still me, but at the same time it wasn't. I had the same thick, dark, curly hair. The same hazel eyes. The same olive skin with a light dusting of freckles (ugh) scattered across the bridge of my nose. But my curls were now streaked with highlights. And not the subtle, golden-brown ones that sometimes appeared during the summer. No, these were an aggressive, dazzling blond that went from the roots of my hair all the way to the tips. It looked like I had spent a full day getting my hair done in some upscale salon. Never mind that I had never set foot in such a place since the day I was born. My eyes appeared somehow wider and more luminous. The colour brighter, my eyelashes darker up against them. And, when I looked closely, my pupils seemed to be slitted almost like a cat. I looked down at my body. My skinny arms-which had always refused to gain any definition no matter how hard I exercised-were lined with flat, wiry muscles. My bony shoulders were now curved and smooth. My scrawny legs were toned like a dancer. I reached down and lifted my shirt, revealing two subtle lines running vertically down my perfectly flat stomach, hinting at the rock-hard abs underneath. My whole body was rippling with strength. Like liquid steel.
