In the world, you have a soulmate. If the soulmate left but is still alive, your physical appearance will be that of the soulmate. If somehow the soulmate falls in love with another person, the other soulmate will develop Hanahaki.
Hanahaki is a disease of unrequited love. Flowers start to grow from inside the person's lungs. Until that person dies of suffocation or blood loss, and or that person gets the flowers surgically removed. The only side effects of getting rid of the disease is forgetting about your soulmate.

It's not very painful at first, but the flowers get bigger and more frequently coughed up over a span of 2 years. If you haven't found and kissed your soulmate by the time you turn 18, you die of the "disease." The flowers are your soulmate's favourite color(s). Their gender is shown by what kind of flower it is: buttercups for female, roses for male, and oleanders for any others. Once you kiss your soulmate, the flowers retreat over a span of a week, finally leaving forever. If your soulmate dies before you find them, the flowers turn black, and the progression of the flowers stops. If you kiss anyone who is not your soulmate (outside blood relatives), then 2 months get taken off of your time to find your soulmate. If you have more than one soulmate (the max is 3), the flowers will be oleanders and will have two different colors the flowers can be. //Yes, I know that's not what Hanahaki disease is. In most cases the diagnosed is known to experience excessive coughing sessions and throwing out flower petals of their beloved's favourite kind of flower accompanied by some blood and/or mucus. Some other symptoms might include chest pains, shortage of breaths and fainting. Methods of treatment and cure are yet to be discovered. Surprisingly, Wen Junhui of Seventeen is rumoured to be diagnosed with the disease and not so surprisingly, the rumours are true. Junhui does indeed cough up the blue primrose petals from time to time, Joshua's favourite kind. They suddenly stop by the time he had started coughing up the individual petals of 3-4 Primroses.
