Sub 1,000 word Science Fiction competition entry for the following prompt:
Mission Log day 27, around noon. Run out of other options, we decided to explore the cave. Gillian claimed she knew enough about speleology to make this sound like a piece of cake. The doc supported her, and so I didn't tell them about my claustrophobia. Anyway, we were in for a major surprise.
Based on the log entry and a photo [of a cave], write a brand new science fiction story.

After being pushed into a cave, Derrick wakes up to find that the opening has mysteriously vanished, leaving him in nothing but blankness. He soon finds Anne, a girl who can't remember who she was before the cave. In the darkness she becomes his light And together they try to escape the blackness as well as the equally as dark past. Survival in space was our only option. The dying earth and its sickly inhabitants forced us to flee to the stars. My father, the commander of the elite group chosen to live amongst the stars, brought me along for the journey. And everything was going smoothly until I unexpectedly woke up on a new planet, one with an ethereal glow and an eerie resemblance to our old home as the commander of the military space force, my father tasked his men with exploring this new world. But what they discovered was far from welcoming. This new planet was already inhabited by terrifying creatures, and they were not happy with our presence. His men fought to survive against these beasts, I couldn't help but wonder why they were so hostile towards us. That's when one of them approached me, defying everything we had been warned about. Instead of attacking, it watched me pick flowers before later saving me from a fiery blast. Now it's my turn to save him. Please read the prologue in the beginning before going to Chapter 1. I know a lot of people skip Prologues, however, it has important information that will give you a better understanding of what's going on in other chapters. Feel free to comment and vote. (Bold italics resemble thoughts) In a distant future, humanity destroyed Earth and fled to find another planet to live on. They stumbled across an Earth-like planet in a nearby galaxy. They named it Ether. Some people didn't want to live on Ether and decided to inhabit the other planets in the galaxy. The inhabitants of each planet developed diverse uncanny abilities due to rapid evolution and adaptation. Soon after, a civilization was introduced to these planets. A war broke out between two planets: Galilea and Anaka. Spero wakes up in a familiar room. After awaking after a 4 month coma, he's sent on missions to uncover the truth about the war. (I'd like criticism)
The Cave
Five co-workers and a guide struggle with a creature, a live relic from the past and from another dimensional plane. The creature is simultaneously lizard and birdlike, while also having anthropoidic characteristics. Once upon a time, this alien race made contact with a lost human Civilization in the region. The two races initially made an alliance, but the greed of some of the humans caused a war to erupt. The discovery and cursory inspection of the cave by one of the characters results in an impromptu, amateur tour. During the journey through the cave one of the co-workers, through a combination of stubbornness, curiosity and willfulness, becomes separated. He stumbles upon a cache of interesting artifacts inside of an oddly inhuman room with alien technology. It is in these confines where he unlocks the being whose last memories of human interaction are still freshly stinging its memory. The group grapples through the tenuous caves trying to escape the creature's vengeful wrath. The ensuing mad flight from the cave to relative safety results in a battle for survival.Abgeschlossene Geschichte
