In a world where the supernatural exist in heavy numbers, Kyra Harris is a devoted private investigator. She is torn between the familiar setting of her house in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois; and her need for excitement and adventure. While out shopping in a divey neighborhood, she is attacked by a vampire in broad daylight, which is uncharacteristic for them. A handsome stranger helps fend off the vampire and sends her on a trail of clues to solve a 30 year-old cold case that involves an innocent 25 year-old girl being murdered.

Kyra hits a dead end when the coroner tells her that there was hair on the body that does not match any living beings all the way back to prehistoric times. She feels something is off about the case, which is then ratified when the coroner is murdered before he can do any further testing.

Important people that are involved in the case are mysteriously disappearing or being killed.

Kyra knows in her soul that it is her fault.

When she runs out of options, she investigates the local rumor going around: vampires being holed up in Russia with their leader while preying on innocent humans. She travels into the town of the fabled "Dracula's Mansion", which was believed to have been the first place where vampires lived and were hunted.

Kyra knows that they won't accept her being in the terrifying town, but the vampires accept her with open arms.

Why?

Little does she know, she is a direct descendent of the very first vampire.

But as far as she knows, her parents were human. She had constantly asked them in the hopes that she would be something other than an ordinary human. Were her parents lying to her? If so, why would they?

Kyra doesn't care. She just wants justice for the victims of the old and new murders committed by an unknown species.
