The Amazing Tales of Poppet Olley

You walk downtown; the same route you walk to the bus every day for the past 11 years. Your backpack is heavy on your shoulders, books umong other supplies weighing it down. You arrive at the crosswalk used to complete your walk to school. You are not able to walk yet, so you stick your hands in your pockets and wait.
There is a girl next to you. You didn't notice her at first- or is it that she wasn't there before? She looks your age, with dark ginger hair braided away from her freckled face. You find yourself being drawn to the book she holds: a thick leather bound journal with hiptonizing designs inscribed on it.
You take one last look at the girls face. One eye is gold, the other a face of a clock. The girl smiles at your amazed face, shutting her eyes. When she opens them, they are a monochromatic grey. You blink, and the girl is gone.
