Gerry Anderson's UFO was the first big budget British live-action television series of a secret government organisation named SHADO (Supreme Headqauters Alien Defence Organisation) combat a dying alien race who have come to Earth in order to survive. The series starred Ed Bishop, George Sewell, Micheal Billington and Wanda Ventham across twenty six action packed episodes, UFO was Anderson's first live-action series created for ITC Entertainment, following the immense success of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet.

The series first aired on 16th September 1970, and is fondly remembered as one of Anderson's finest productions, thanks to it's fast paced, intelligent storylines, spectacular visual effects provided by Derek Meddings, phenomenal score by Barry Gray and strong leads. They are both joined by the genius Professor Matthew Matic, who although may seem a little eccentric, is a brilliant scientist and vital member of the crew. It was he who invented his highly advanced creation Robert the Robot. Occasionally, the crew is joined by Dr. Venus' pet Lazoon, who enjoys making chaos and causing havoc on the ship... Reporting to their superiors at Space City, the disgruntled Commander Zero and the youthful Lieutenant Ninety, Steve Zodiac and his friends are about to engage in their most important assignment in their careers. As such, the entire fabric of the universe hangs in balance when tensions between alien races stretch across the galaxy, creating dangerous political instability and an impending space war about to break out. The Mysterons cleverly engineer the death of a number of Titan's Aquaphibians. Through a nearby fish mining base, the company are manipulated by the Martian forces to destroy a Terror Fish carrying a number of Titan's people. Once Captain Black forms a deadly relationship with Titan, both ensure that they will seek out their main objectives in securing vengeance against mankind - the mining base is the next target on the list... Under the supervision of the World Aquanaut Security Patrol, Marineville has observed that this mining base has had its structure unnaturally altered. With Cloudbase already aware that the Mysterons attempt to strike their deadliest blow yet, and swear to finally destroy Captain Scarlet once and for all, Spectrum are called in to assist Marineville. More mysterious goings-on occur when the body of the head of the fishing company is found in his office, with another of the same person alive and well on the base... After the global organisations of the world prevented their destruction from the Mitrochondrofrom, the heroes who have been taken out of their time are to be returned to their periods to where they belong. A number of these heroes were taken out by the Investigator, an omniscient being who oversees the shape of the universe. When attempting to return heroes to their proper places in time, an error occurs in the reality of time and space, trapping everyone in the year 2069. The Investigator attempts to repair the damage, but not until evil begins to unravel the work... With the defences of the universe weakened, Earth's greatest heroes must unite one last time to combat the alliance formed by the evil from Earth as well as unknown cosmic threats. Five mysterious alien pods are floating in formation across space - its origin is from Mars! A rough approximation of where the pods landed has been calculated. They are carefully tracked by space observatories all around the world. For situations encompassing security threats on a global scale, International Rescue, Spectrum, the WASPs, and the WSP are all on stand by to take to task the alien arrivals. One lands in Mediterranean waters, the second in the rural hills of Scotland, another in the deserts of Africa, a fourth outside a space commission, and the other has gone random... Even more strange happenings are going on. An alien signal transmitting through deep space sends Fireball XL5 to answer the message of warning. It is warned that the appallingly dangerous pods have been sent by the Mysterons to wipe out all life on Earth. The pods unleash deadly plants that become uncontrollable carnivores and begin growing into terrifying sizes. The strange entity that brought in XL5 calls upon the greatest Earth forces in our existence to help combat the nightmare... Soon, W.I.N, B.I.S.H.O.P, and the crew of the Supercar are brought forward in time to the 2060s as havoc spreads across the globe.
