Mature
In this story, Dupin searches for an unusual killer who ordered the killings on Rue Morgue Street. At the end of the investigation, she learns that it is not human at all, which accomplishes this element of horror in the act. The killer is a grotesque, man-driven creature, forced by Dupin with his eloquence and discernment to confess. This upheaval in the work is completely unexpected, and contradicts the previous thought that the reader should be able to assume the killer while reading, as is usually the case in novels of a similar nature. The work itself is quite violent, especially at the time it was written.
