Alexandria, preferred name Alex, seems to have a perfect life, from what everyone around her can see. She has a beautiful mom, a really smart dad, and an adorable little brother. Even though her parents are divorced, her life seems awesome. She isn't beautiful - quite the opposite, being considered fat and ugly - but she is smart, and the other kids at school see it.
But what about the things they don't see? Maybe her life isn't so perfect after all... but the only thing she can do is pretend. It's what she's been doing all along, and she can keep doing it. Pretending is how she gets by, pretending everything's okay and hoping one day she'll wake up and it will be.
