"Are you serious? Thats a joke right?" I feebly attempted a light-hearted laugh. He had to be joking. Didn't he?
Mr Carrigan's eyes were sharp and alert. He replied in a cold voice.
"It's not a joke Jessica, I'm dead serious."
I could hear the emphasis on the word dead. This terrified me. I quivered at the thought. I never thought my school could have a secret so dark, sinister and insanely illegal. Now I was apart of it whether I liked it or not.
What had I gotten myself into?

As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment. Those in the first stages of illness became ideal candidates to receive the neuroinhibitor. Having their feelings restrained and their memory altered, those who come of age are designated a life partner through a Selection process, thus preserving the humankind. A few decades after the trial had started, scientists had a major breakthrough. The nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. I should be dead. At least, that's what the government officials told me in the super-secret lab where I woke up strapped to a mattress in a windowless room...Sound problematic to anyone else? Like I told the psychos experimenting on me, I've got zero clue how I got my new powers, but I'm sure-as-shit not going to let them turn me into a deadly weapon (or squeeze me into a spangly jumpsuit). Problem is, I'm not so great at controlling whatever the hell it is I've become...Not to mention I'm on the run from my country for a teensy-weensy act of treason while being chased by a shadowy masked mute who may or may not have superhuman abilities too (but is definitely stupid hot under his off-putting disguise).
