In 2002, a previously unknown disease called 'Theurum' spread. Although the disease only spread throughout women, it seems it only affected women who were pregnant, causing others to be carriers.
The girls who were born of diseased mothers were different, special.
They have something we now call Gifts. Certain abilities to do things that a human normally wouldn't be able to do.
