Of Comics and Coffee

Sam thinks she's a pretty ordinary 17 year old. Kicked out of her house by her parents, she has enough money saved up from her former job to rent an flat in New Jersey, worlds away from the suburbs of Sydney where she was raised. Mentally shattered, she online schools herself and scrapes a living off a full-time position in a coffee shop.

Gerard Way is far from ordinary, and he knows it. The former frontman of radical pop punk band My Chemical Romance, author of the Umbrella Academy (and other comics) and burgeoning solo artist is a self confessed people watcher, a small characteristic which changes everything.

Without realising it, Sam is working at one of Gerard's favourite coffee haunts. He watches her closely, putting together the pieces of her heavily guarded puzzle. Without intending to, he becomes even more of a role model to Sam, helping her find her way in an increasingly confusing world. Can he save her from herself? Or is she too far lost inside her own mind?
