Mature
The Gold, the missing things we look for insistently. We need them to adorn our soul, to light up the hazy days. A beautiful spin through the garden of youth, and the roses have dried blood on their thorns.

The Forest, the trek deeper into the mind. The trees are ancient and worn. They are tired, resting in their birthplace, never to move. They provide solace for the weary. They whisper a lesson: embrace the history, and move forward.

The two ends of a story are tying together. "Coffee?"

But it's when she meets Kai Hayes, the school's football captain, that the complexities of love, friendship, and family come crashing down on her. His piercing gaze sees through Marilyn's walls and into her soul, and for the first time, she feels truly seen and that terrifies her. As they talk, the clatter of cups and plates fades into the background, and Marilyn's heart beats faster with each passing moment. However, when Marilyn unexpectedly gets caught up in a lie, she must choose between her own desires and protecting the people she cares about or risk it all based on a lie. The weight of the decision bears down on her like a ton of bricks, and she feels like she's drowning in a sea of uncertainty. As she struggles to find her place in the world, Marilyn realizes that the path to self-discovery is not an easy one. She must confront her past and overcome her fears to truly find herself. "You can't just take her away from me Veronica. She's my Flower to. We helped her grow, and I want to be there for when she's a mature beautiful rose with thorns, because if she's anything like you, that's exactly what she'll be." Beautiful, but if you cross her, she'll prick you. Draw blood to your skin, matching her red petals. I won't let a boy or man pick them. She loves me, she loves me not. Fuck that. No one picks my daughter apart. And Veronica sure as hell isn't picking her from the ground she was raised, carrying her away from me to give to some other chump. I won't let my Flower die. Ever. Andrew Mena is on a mission to save his marriage. Veronica is deaf to his lying words. She's exhausted with the gimmicks, heard it all before. Is it too late to pick up the pieces of the deteriorated flower? Or should they just die, and lay lifeless on the ground? Everything's worth saving, but this marriage might not be. Sequel to The Flower Girl (Should read the first book for this one to make sense.)
