Sirens have many descriptions:

And real.
And, they're not all too bad. Other than the fact that the reason why they're so hidden away is because they either kill Humans that find out about them or just live in otherwise uninhabitable environments.
Such as the Deep Sea.
Regina Tempus, the Queen of The Deep Sea Sirens, is a fearless and vicious person. And she also made... a journal? And this journal has also, somehow, ended up in your possession.
Consider yourself lucky that this is somehow water-resistant paper, and that this has somehow gotten to the surface from the Deep Sea.
