They're fascinating. Shedding their skin, eating larger animals by unhinging their jaws, and there are over three thousand species.
I've been learning about them for years, finding out everything I can. Which snakes are venomous, which are constrictors. The most dangerous, the most unique, the good, bad, and ugly. They, as a species, are marvelous.
I received my fair share of teasing names over the years for my fascination. Few were kind. I ignored them in favor of delving into more books, research papers, reading and analyzing and focusing myself on becoming an expert all things serpentine.
It seemed only fate that I found what I did, that day the circus came to town."

On top of having an overprotective family he has to navigate being the new kid in his senior year of high school, making friends, falling in love, and learning how to save a life.
