Adaline and Nathaniel attempt to shield themselves from rumours and social alienation by hiding their familiarity with one another. Adaline begins to realise that her first impressions of the town were incorrect, and that fear is more of a prison than a protection. Where the future is uncertain and clouded, anxiety will rule the lives of the townspeople. Folks battle all manner of secret struggles on their journeys to find freedom in ruling over their own lives.
