"Can I sit here, nobody's allowing me anywhere else," the redhead says weakly expecting to receive a no. The cafeteria goes dead silent as all eyes and attention are on us.

"Get lost loser," Shawn says. The kid looks down further before he begins to walk away but I shake my head.

"No. You can sit here." Shawn gives me a look before muttering underneath his breath. "Play nice, Shawny." Shawn almost instantly began to grumble something under his breath once again. "Go ahead. We won't hurt you, won't we?"

Amaya Wolff. A feared bad-ass of Palo Alto High School. Mostly because she's so damn mysterious, the way she's really good at fighting, and her "amazing" personality. Nobody really knows about her besides for those that were there along the way. That leaves seven lucky people that know about this. Her mom, step-dad, her little brother (Jonah), and the four guys in school that she's really tight with. Nobody else knows her story and while some were there for the best, others were the problem.

That's until the new kid, Ace Bentley, comes to the school. Nobody gives him the time of day. That's before Amaya gives him a chance and forces her friends to do the same. But does this chance give him the opportunity to uncover the truth about her and if so will he stick around after everything he learns.

Can this change everything for Amaya or will this be something that she just needed? So much can change so fast.

Carmen is screwed up. She's been in and out of juvie all her life and seriously there's no place she'd rather be. Until she gets released from juvie unexpectedly, given a probation officer, and forced to live with a normal family and go to a normal school. Carmen doesn't even know the definition of normal. Much less family, or school. Separated from the only system she's known and has stayed constant all her life, she finds it hard to adjust to the world outside the concrete building. The structure and rules aren't the same. In juvie, rules were like opinions, people ignored them. But in the real world, supposedly it wasn't socially acceptable to steal cash, or graffiti the front of the school building. Enter the Harrisons, the family who's taking care of her. The matriarch of the family hates her criminal record. Sammy, the seven-year-old, is too clingy, too innocent, and too naive to understand anything. Then there's Jay, the guy she's forced to share a room with. A self-righteous son of a bitch, Jay doesn't understand Carmen and doesn't understand her self destructive way of thinking. Though he's not bothered by her, he's fascinated with her. The family represents the structure and rules that Carmen doesn't, nor wants to, understand. But as Carmin starts to push back at the structure and rules suddenly rushed into her life, it starts to change. Her whole way of living is thrown off balance, what she deems normal isn't. And through a series of events, she starts to spiral out of control, and she doesn't know if someone can pull her up from that. Carmen was given a second chance, but is it a good chance, or is it just another recipe for getting thrown right back to square one, like she always is? Because second chances don't usually get handed out. And she's about to learn what it means to get a second chance. ____

"Mommy?" I looked up from her arms and into her smile. "Yes, my little light?" She replied back, with a curious grin. Nothing but love, gentleness, and kind warmth on her sweet face. Six year old me stared into her glistening eyes. Eyes that could melt glaciers. Those eyes. "What is it my love?" She questioned again with an angelic smile. That damn smile. The sudden breeze pushed the windows to slam open against the walls, as the curtains flew up and the rose candle was blown out. The night crept in, invading my bedroom. My mother gasped with a frightened jump and called out my name. Frantically, she flipped the bedside lamp on when she heard no reply. Panic washed over her face as she kneeled beside her sweet little girl, now covered in a blood stained night gown, black eye and bloody lip. "Why did you let him hurt me, mommy?" My mother gasped and fell back onto her hands. Terrified, she stood and with no hesitation, made a dash for the door, leaving her baby girl in the dark corner. Her panicked attempt to leave the room came to a complete stop as she came to face the full length mirror. She stared back in horror, only it wasn't her looking back at her reflection. It was me -Kali emerges from her past that has left every piece of her in ruins. Her life was left shattered into a million pieces. With intentions of starting a new life, she feels like her past will never let her go. When starting over doesn't promise a new start, Kali's life is thrusted in and out of place.

How do you forgive yourself for the things you've done, or for what you could've? He didn't see it coming. The car - the flash of lights. The screech as it slammed into him. Not through his drunken haze as he wandered in the darkness. Alone. It's all my fault. I could've saved him, I should've. He's dead because of me. I'd do anything to take it back. To make it up to him. Anything at all. Even then, nothing I do will bring him back. Jamie Wayne has felt dead for as long as he has been. She's been visited by death before, but not like this. It's different. The pain is supposed to go away, or at least dull. After the death of her mother only a year ago, she and her father moved to a new town where she met Alex. Everyone knew him as the kind, attractive and socially acceptable guy he was. Except he was more than that - he was the light at the end of the tunnel when all she could find was darkness. But everything's different now. He's gone - dead. Nothing about it is normal, or makes sense. The only thing she knows for sure is that it isn't getting better - it's only getting worse. The more she remembers, the more she wants to forget. Everyone else already has. Only her mind won't let her, which makes her wonder if there's more to it. Or if there's a way to fix it. For once, she has to guide herself through the darkness to reach the light at the end of the tunnel on her own. If there is any.
