He was just a nerd, but Indigo has liked him ever since the freshman year. He's got no idea. He can't like her, right? The amount of humility she will receive by being rejected just scares her. But she doesn't realize that he likes her too, and he likes her a lot.
After all, she's just a pretty gal, nothing special.
