How did I end up here? In this game where pain and death are real? Where the only thing worse than dying is being resurrected. Where I can't logout. Now, we are expected to climb this tower full of monsters that will "Lead to Radiance", or something. The only thing I do know is the Tower is the way out. In 2025. a virtual reality massively multiplayer online role-playing game (VRMMORPG) called ROF (Realm Of Fela) is released. With the Nerve Gear, a helmet that stimulates the user's five senses via their brain, players can experience and control their in-game characters with their minds. Both the game and the Nerve Gear were created by a South Korean gaming company Nexon. The Real of Fela is home to numerous guilds where wizards apply their magic for paid job requests. 300,000 players log into ROF's mainframe cyberspace for the first time, only to discover that they are unable to log out. The creator of the game says that there is only one way the players can be set free however, the message is hidden in the game. Those who suffer in-game deaths or forcibly remove the Nerve Gear out-of-game will suffer real-life deaths.
