"I can't let you do that" she sobbed, cradling her head in her hands "I've caused you enough trouble"
My heart broke as I watched her completely break down over something she had no control over. It wasn't her fault that her Ex was a psychopath.
"Madi" I cooed softly, prying her hands away from her beautiful tear stained face "It's going to be okay. I'll handle it"
"No!" she gripped my shirt, her eyes widening in panic "You can't handle him! You don't know what he's capable of!"
"Madison" I said firmly, clasping my hands against her cheeks "I need to take care of this or else he'll never leave you alone"
"I'll leave" she said suddenly "I'll pack up my things and take the baby somewhere safe. He'll..."
"No" I cut her off "You're not leaving my sight"
"But..."
"I said no" I told her firmly, wiping away her tears with the pad of my thumb "I promised to take care of you"
"Why won't you let me go?" she whispered, clutching my shirt tighter "Why won't you let me protect you?"
I gave her a small grin
"I could ask you the same thing"
