Applications of band heaters:
Band heaters work on the process of conduction where heat is transferred by direct contact. They are primarily used for heating cylindrical surfaces. While band heaters have numerous applications, they are most commonly used in processes involving plastic injection moulding, extruder machines and nozzles. Let us see in details how a band heater becomes indispensable in these areas.
1) Plastic injection moulding:
Plastic injection moulding is the process of producing plastic parts, where the material granules are fed into a heated barrel via a hopper. To maintain the optimum temperature of the barrel, band heaters are used. These heaters are used to make sure that there will be maximum surface contact between the band heater and the barrel thereby resulting in excellent heat transfer during the injection moulding process.
2) Used in extruders:
The extruder is another machine that is used for moulding metals and other materials, where the raw material called resin is fed via a hopper and goes into the die which is surrounded by band heaters to make sure that there would be no decrease in the required temperature needed to mould the raw material into the required shape.
3) Used in nozzles:
Band heaters can also be used for heating nozzles to a temperature of up to 550 degree Celsius. These nozzles are used in injection moulding machinery for producing moulds of different shapes and sizes. Apart from maintaining optimum heat level on different spots if the die, heaters are also sometimes used to safeguard the existing temperature on the surface areas where these heaters are in contact with.
