You like lord of the rings, Harry Potter & Percy Jackson. Aside from that a whole lot of magic than this is the right story.
Verona was always something like a misfit in her class, although she tried so hard to fit in. Yet she had no talents, not for magic or anything else. So she was an easy target for bullies. And an one she had a small crush that she pushed aside. Everything seemed fine at their school.
Until she just suddenly disappeared. Everybody was shocked where did she go, what happened.
14 years later she returns and piece by piece the truth is unveiled.

However, that was before they seemed to forget all about him. He at least had his brother, Harry Potter, but he too had gotten no letters from their friends. Then one day a small creature wearing a pillowcase showed up in their shared bedroom and told them that they absolutely, positively could not go back to school under any circumstance.
