A heart's egg is born from a person's strong wishes or dreams that hatches into a Guardian Character. They stay with their Bearer, helping them achieve their true goal. However, when their Bearer gives up or stops believing in them, Guardian Characters return to their eggs or, even worse, become X-eggs. X-eggs are the hearts' eggs whose owners have given up and abandoned them. X-eggs can hatch into X-characters, causing much trouble and pain to their Bearer and other people.

Nagihiko Fujisaki and Rima Mashiro have been good friends since sixth grade in elementary school. Now moving on to tenth grade, things begin to change as they undergo situations that, potentially, ruins their friendship.
