It's been 97 years since a devastating nuclear apocalypse wiped out almost all life on Earth. 
Over 2,400 survivors live on a single massive station in Earth's orbit called "The Ark". 
After the Ark's life-support systems are found to be failing, 100 juvenile prisoners are sent to the surface in a last attempt to determine whether Earth is habitable. 
They discover not all humanity was destroyed and some survived the apocalypse: the Grounders.
Among the 100 prisoners is Former Cadet for the guard Bellamy Blake whose sister lived under the floor for 17 years until she was caught.

23 year old Lily is a grounder and when she notices something strange coming from the sky and she confides in her friend Lincoln to help her investigate.
Where she finds people emerging from the object that fell from the sky.
Her interests peak when she notices a tall male, Bellamy.
She finds his hate towards her people amusing and his instant initiative to take a leadership role inspiring.
