Emma Jones lives in Sarasota, Florida with her twin brother Evan, and their Aunt Elizabeth, who they nicknamed, Aunt Lizzy.
Emma and Evan were fifteen years old when their parents died in a car accident involving a tractor trailer that instantly killed them both. Three years later they are eighteen, and are on the brink of graduation.
Evan was once a sweet, outgoing boy that succumbed to the grief of losing his parents.
But unlike Evan, Emma is trying to overcome the grief and changes of losing a loved one. Emma is also more of the shy, and nerdy type girl, and has only two close friends, her boyfriend, Blake King, and Penny Williams.
Penny is Emma's best friend who lives next door. They have been friends since diapers. Penny has an older brother named Parker, who is super gorgeous. Emma and Parker were once friends, but after an incident at the beach in middle school, Emma has harbored hatred against him since.
Nineteen year old, Parker has been away at college for the year, but is coming home for summer break, and this annoys Emma to no end, she just can't see what other girls see in him anymore besides good looks, and popularity. Sparks begin to fly again as they are forced to spend time together on the beach.
