Four months ago, when Valerie and her little brother Lance were home alone, her house caught on fire. She managed to save her brother, but didn't get away without some big burning wounds covering one side of her body. Insecure about these scars, she closes herself off from everyone, including her best friends and even her boyfriend. But then her father convinces her to go to a talking group for traumatized teenagers, where she meets Harlan, who is blind. Harlan can't see her scars, and he understands how she feels. She feels more comfortable with him than she has with anyone for a long time. But what about her boyfriend, Finn?

I was dealing with a lot at the time so I came up with this book idea, where both main characters have dramatized aspects of myself in them, as a way to make myself feel lovable, so writing this now is a nostalgic and creative way of looking back, processing, and letting go of the emotions I was going through as an adolescent.
