The story is center around a multigenerational family living in Los Angeles. It is told from the perspective of a 16 years old girl who is on a family holiday at her grandmothers home. Marnie has two grandmothers, a mom and dad, and many cousins. Ruth Crawford and the Crawford family were a long line of descendants of the queen of England so they carry around a snobbish attitude. Ruth Crawford was also a long time retired actress who is considered some sort of a legend in Hollywood but her wife Egnes was a woman from humble beginnings and a very kind-hearted woman. Marnie loved her both the grandmas and the love they display for each other even at this old age.
