Silas Shaw is left behind. Brushed aside by his father since his mother's funeral five years ago, he is finally sent to live with his cousins in Northern Maine. He soon realizes that this side of his family is different from what he is used to, but with his cousins, Emerson and Poe, Silas goes on a journey of self-discovery, coming to terms with a past which continues to haunt him.
