(Book #1 of the Keepers series) If being the new girl in a small town wasn't enough of a reason for everyone to stare and gossip, try adding the strange birthmark on the back of seventeen year old April Scott's neck. Then add the fact that the one guy in school who has always kept to himself and his family, now has a sudden interest in her. But not in the way she would have liked, no. Adrian Price is the rudest person she's ever met, she can't stand him and yet there he is, always popping up asking bizarre questions that she doesn't know the answers to. Then, April starts having questions of her own after she finds herself in a dark alley with him and...something else, something that reeks of darkness. What it is, he won't tell her, but she has a feeling she has seen one before, she just can't remember where. April is determined to find out what it is, little does she know the answers to her and Adrian's questions lead to the same outcome and it's going to change her world forever.

I studied him with exaggerated disappointment. "But you smell human. I feel misled." His lips curved - slow, deliberate. Dangerous. "Oh, love," he murmured. "I may not smell like ink..." His steps slowed. "But I assure you," he continued, leaning closer - not enough to touch, just enough to make my pulse stutter - "I taste like it." Heat rushed to my cheeks, the blush spreading like wildfire as I stared at him, utterly shocked. "If you doubt me," he said softly, eyes dropping to my mouth, "there's a very simple way to confirm."
