Returning from a psychiatric hospital isn't the easiest thing to return to normalcy from. Maxiumus Rivers returns home, not to feign being cured, but to face the demons and spirits that are his constant companions and reason for being admitted to a psyche ward in the first place.  

Even more, having an all-star, beloved twin and younger sister that you wish to protect isn't the easiest thing to have overshadowing you - especially when you have voices in your head and ghosts in your bed.
