Cyprus is sometimes spelled Kipros, Kypros, and similar variations.A large island in the Mediterranean's Eastern Aegean region.
It is situated south of Turkey, west of Syria and Lebanon, and southwest of Israel. Its strategic location and relative neutrality in relation to many of the Middle Eastern countries have made it a crossroads and it has been useful in some sensitive diplomatic proceedings.
Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean, after Sardinia and Sicily, and ahead of Crete.
