Written in 1921 by Monteiro Lobato, arguably the most influential children's book writer in Brazilian history, The Saci tells the tale of Saci-Pererê, the legendary one-legged prankster from Brazilian folklore.

In this story Lil' Peter, a naive 9-year-old boy from the city, travels to the countryside to spend his vacation and, while being introduced to the magnificent fauna and flora of the Amazonian tropical jungle, ends up meeting many supernatural characters from the South American mythology - such as sacis, boitatás, the headless mule, Cuca, Negrinho do Pastoreio and Iara.
