Jasper is a soft-spoken, quiet girl who doesn't like attention and keeps to herself. Often picked on by bullies, and abused at home by her father, she struggles to believe she's of any worth. Cooper, her older brother, is the only person she trusts. 

Cooper is a quiet but defensive boy whose only goal in life is to protect his younger sister. Cooper often takes the brunt end of his father's aggression as the last thing he wants is to see his sister in pain. Struggling with the stress of his home-life Cooper doesn't know how much more he can take. 

Cooper and Jasper are both trapped by their father with what seems to be no escape. Hatching a plan to escape doesn't go as planned when the two are separated and thrown in different directions. One will undergo suffering, pain, and hopelessness while the other will face stress and doubt. However just as things start to turn for the better, things only get worse. 
Told in dual-perspective this book shows the effects of abuse and the stress it comes with. Each sibling must face what scares them the most, each will lose hope of things ever getting better. They will be scraped down to the brink of disaster. Read their journey as these characters face trials of many kinds. Will they be able to stand strong, or in the face of darkness lose everything they have?
