I think Lloyd(Ninjago) and Lance(Nexo Knights) look similar (Expect for the eyes) but their personality is completely different. So what if they accidentally switch universes. This is set after season 4 of Nexo Knights and after season 15 of Ninjago (before the merge). This is just an idea and a place to put my imagination. Please excuse any typos. He tried to find where Nya was adopted at but there was no luck and soon after that the orphanage kick kai out as they didn't want to deal with him. He was force to live off the streets for years but when he came across a kid that remind Kai of the hardship of living on the streets, he just had to take him in as his own brother.
