It was just another day for most, though, not for her. She walked around the corner and to her street. Her black tipped fingers reached out beside her, it was a habit. The silly girl retracted her hand and put it in her pocket. The hope that she'd look beside her, and see what she wanted, dragged her eyes to the right.

As they were driving home around one in the morning, Jewel suddenly reached for Maze's hand. "Maze... let's not go home yet. Let's go somewhere." Maze glanced at her. "But it's past midnight, Jewel. Everything's closed." Jewel let go of her hand and looked away, disappointed, staring out the window. They continued in silence. But instead of taking the usual route home, Maze veered toward the freeway. She rolled down the windows, letting the cool night air rush in. Jewel looked at her, a small smile forming. She turned up the radio and stretched her hand out into the wind. It became one of those drives-quiet, wordless, and full of meaning. The kind where the road stretched endlessly, the wind carried their thoughts, and their stolen glances said everything they couldn't.

"Don't worry," he held his hand out for her, "here." The petite woman took his hand and Joe's stomach flip-flopped churning the bagel he had inhaled on his way out of the door this morning; the woman's hand felt all too familiar. As she reached his eye level, Joe had to stop a gasp that was trying to escape his lips, "Dianne?" "Yes? How do you know my n-" she had just looked up at him from the phone in her hand and all words flew from her head at the sight of those piercing eyes. "I don't believe it." "Joe," she dropped his hand, "oh my, bloody hell." There was a moment or two of what could only be described as an awkwardly unpleasant silence, as they both took the person in front of them in, in all of their glory.

Life was dull, boring, and mechanical. I’ve always wondered if this would change. If something interesting will happen. I always hoped something interesting will happen. A falling meteor that would destroy half of town, an alien invasion, or even the Apocalypse. Anything, just to relieve me of this monotonous life I lead. “Urgh,” I groaned as I reached over to turn off the alarm clock that sounded like a hundred sirens in the early hours of dawn. The golden sun hasn’t come out to expel the surrounding darkness yet. I figured it would take an hour more or so for the sun to show its shining face, so I decided to eat breakfast and take a bath first. But little did I know that today was the day that my life would change. It was the day I met her. ---------- A short story. Hey guys! This is my first try writing a pure romance story.
