Olivia was left to survive in the aftermath of the war, with a little sister to provide for as well. After the majority of humans had been turned into creatures that resembled zombies, few remained. And within that pool of survivers, very little women. Hence why it was so important to stay safe.
If Olivia and her little sister are to live on, she was going to have to fend hard against zombies, vampires, werewolves and many more. She could do it... food, water and shelter...
