I stepped onto the ship with uncertain steps. It was the military boat, diva, they called it. I fluttered my fan against the heat as my father, captain of this vessel approached. But, as always, he wasn't talking to me. "The ship has captives sire, down in the brig," he let out a short snort of amusement, "they speak of mermaids." The general smiled. "The heat does strange things, and pirates are always drunk in any case." The guards stepped on board, disappearing into the belly of the ship. The general followed. My father slid his eyes to me. "Celeste? What are you doing? Women on the seas is bad luck!" He scolded. I suppressed rolling my eyes. "We're in port. Can't I see my dear father after months away?" He ushered me off the ship. "I missed you too" I mutter into my fan as he steps back on the deck, and begins shouting orders. --------------- Terrible sewing, sloppy writing, and burnt cakes. These are the fine qualities of Celeste Reed. Born in rosewood, a sweet little boring town that she calls home. Until her father, captain of one of many military ships, returns home with a surprise that might just turn her world upside down... Or under water.

Mermaids, beaches, fairies! this place is awesome. someone then snatched the book out my hands. "Mermaids? what is this crap?" I looked up to see Cynthia and her clique. "why do you carry this thing around with you all the time?" I stood up and held out my hand. "give it back." "why? it's not like you can read it, you're stupid." Her words didn't mean anything to me but those words are going to come back to me tonight and punch me in the face. "How old are you? aren't you like 16 and reading this children's book?" How long have you been here Michelle? Tears welled up in my eyes. I knew what was coming next. "answer me, hoe!" "10 years" I mumbled. "10 years and still haven't been adopted? that's sad. why are you still living? no one loves you. no one ever will. I bet your parents crashed their car on purpose just to get away from you." I had enough. I threw myself at her. I slammed my fists into her pretty face. then her clique joined in. I was outnumbered. Everything got blurry after the second kick. They continued and I blacked out.
