The Doctor had always believed he was the last Time Lord. He'd lost everyone. His family, his best friend, who also happened to be his soulmate although at the time he didn't know that. He decided to travel the universe, essentially running from his past. Running from her.
Larken didn't know where she was, or how long she'd been there. All she knew, was that every other Time Lord and Time Lady was gone, according to her captors, and she was the last one. It took years for it to finally hit her. He was gone. The Doctor was gone, and he'd broken his promise. He wasn't coming back for her. She was alone.
