After training Naruto outside Konoha for 12 years, Kushina decided to return to Konoha, when Naruto finally graduated from the academy she decided to take on a team in order to get her son in the team. Knowing her son is in his puberty, the cunning Konoichi knows exactly how to 'motivate' him and give him tons of 'rewards' that he will never forget.
