Princess Victoria Valar and Lady Alexia Greywing enter the lion's den that is the capital city of the Empire of Voprein, Cassal with one goal, survival. Princess Victoria must face the challenge of this foreign court without the assistance of loyal servants while also staying one step ahead of her betrothed who seems just too nice to not be suspicious. Meanwhile, Lady Alexia, her only ally, must desert her in order to cultivate the power she shall need to protect her beloved mistress.

Matters are worse back at home as their brothers, Prince Elyon and General Nygel, investigate the murder of a beloved friend whilst also battling the court nobles in a pursuit to maintain this tentative peace.
