It was a seemingly normal day in Berk; vikings doing Viking things, dragons doing dragon things. But what no one was expecting was for an army of dragon trappers to attack, kidnapping the weak and vulnerable while slaughtering anyone who got in their way.
Hiccup, still not used to his prosthetic, was lucky enough to fall under the 'weak' category. Along with a few others of his tribe, he is taken to the base of Viggo Grimborne and chosen to be a part of the next group of test subjects for a gruesome experimentation. A mixture, or potion if you will, made up of many ingredients from dragons of all kinds. The main and most important ingredient: diluted changewing acid.
When this mix is injected into the veins of a human an incredibly disturbing fate is sealed upon them. They will be slowly transformed into a dragon.

The council of berk decides to take action and ask gothi for a solution.

However, that was before he met and bonded with Toothless, a night fury he had shot down weeks ago. Now, he wanted to escape, but not without attempting to convince the vikings that dragons weren't the real threat. He thought his monstrous nightmare match would be the perfect setting for such a feat. When things go sideways, when Toothless saves Hiccup, he has a choice, stay and try one last shot of convincing Berk, or flee with his best friend. He chooses the best option, he flees. Now, he is branded as a trator, a renegade. Stoick practically disowns him and he is never heard from again. five years later, Berk hears mighty tales of a grand hero who rides a night fury. Many call him 'Night Rider', 'Dragon Tamer', and 'Mysterious Rider'. Many doubted that this hero could be their traitorous ex heir to the Berkian leadership.
