"They pour through the pages | Of bygone ages | And in barrows where are lying | The dead, they are prying." In the fifteen century of the second age, the Vanir hold dominion over the fairest part of the world and the most civilized portion of mankind. The frontiers of their holy empire are guarded by ancient magic and disciplined valor. But the reign of the Vanir is coming to an end. In the east dark clouds gather and in their midst old foes are stirring anew. On the pastoral island of Iordo, a strange wanderer entrusts a young Cimber with a seemingly innocuous task that will take her on a perilous journey across the known world to the dark lands of the east where the black sun of the third age is rising.

Shaylee had nothing more to lose when she sneaked into a boat and left her homeland Ireland for good. She had burned all the bridges behind her, and her future was more than uncertain. All she had was a name. A name her grandmother told her and might belong to the only family she had left. But would he be willing to take her in? Or were all the stories true and he also did burn all the bridges connecting him with his Danish past. Would Uhtred Ragnarson take in the daughter of his Danish brother and will she be able to build a life in a foreign country? And would this life be better than the one she left behind? Without fear, without pressure but with a loving family, maybe even a family of her own? Inspired by the tv show "The Last Kingdom"
