Not So Different, yet as Different as Can Possibly Be

What needs to be done for a better world
Scarred by a cataclysmic meteor strike, humanity struggles to rebuild amidst the wreckage. As civilization begins to take its first tentative steps forward, a bizarre twist of fate unfolds. Animals, exposed to a mysterious chemical agent released by the impact, undergo a radical transformation, gaining humanoid traits while retaining their primal instincts. Communication proves to be a barrier in the early years of their appearance. Humans, fearing for their species, ignited a war for dominance. Yet, as the conflict rages on, it becomes increasingly apparent that the scales are tipping in favor of the evolved animals. Humanity finds itself on the brink of extinction and, recognizing the futility of the conflict, a fragile peace is brokered between the two factions. Yet, despite the truce, tensions remain high. Interactions between what came to be called furries and humans are limited. Both sides bear the scars of the conflict, and conflicts still flare up sporadically, reminding all involved of the fragile balance that hangs over their world. Amidst this uneasy peace, our protagonist must navigate a world forever changed by the clash of two civilizations, grappling with questions of identity, survival, and the ever-shifting dynamics between man and beast.

After the nuke, Human children were immune to the deadly gas and have trouble trying to survive without any adult guidance. Two days later after the nuke. Classic space opera. I am revisiting an old idea I had. ~Tight ensemble of characters amid a hostile environment. In an advanced timeline roughly 1000 years into the future. Crit, an unreliable citizen in the system stirs trouble against a new regime, taking hold over the galaxy's freedom. I am still learning the ways of literature, I believe I have a ton of stories that'll either leave a laugh or tear. Please be patient while I'm re-educating myself.

The company that owned it, Vault-Tec, was a government-funded organisation that worked to find ways to preserve human life in the case of global disaster: environmental, nuclear, or otherwise. Due to Y/N's service history, he was allowed into the vault during the nuclear warhead exchange between America and China, and that's where our story starts.
